Rose McGowan who recently revealed that she is battling cancer, took to Twitter wrote that she in fact was raped.
Contributing to the #WhyWomenDontReport hashtag, McGowan wrote: “Because my ex sold our movie to my rapist for distribution,” “Because it’s been an open secret in Hollywood/Media and they shamed me while adulating my rapist,” and “A (female) criminal attorney said because I’d done a sex scene in a film I would never win against the studio head.”

McGowan’s claim comes amid a growing number of women who have come forward via Twitter to speak about their sexual assaults, sharing their experiences to bring awareness to the pervasiveness of attacks against women. Here are some reactions from social media.
McGowan apparently planned to report the rape, going as far to contact a criminal attorney, whom she notes is female, but alleges she was told that the case would never be successful given the status of those involved.

The Charmed alum’s tweets also follow a week in which numerous women have spoken out against Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, accusing the real estate mogul of touching them inappropriately and forcing himself upon them, according to US Weekly.
In August, McGowan wrote an open letter addressed to Trump, the Rupert Murdoch family and the media at large for poisoning society with hateful rhetoric. The actress has been open about tackling the issue.
“We, the public, are being sickened by an ever expanding assault on our right to live a healthy and free life. Donald & you ratings driven colluders, are holding us the public hostage and exposing us to disease,” McGowan wrote, later describing the disease as “terror cancer.”
