Harvey Weinstein Giving Names Of Hollywood And Washington, D.C. Pedophiles To FBI Is Fake News

Harvey Weinstein receiving a deal with the FBI so that he would turn over “names of elite pedophiles in Hollywood and Washington, D.C.” for lesser charges is fake news. There is no truth to a report that the film producer accused of sexual harassment by many women in Hollywood.

It has now been three weeks since a pair of investigative reports, first from the New York Times and then from the New Yorker, exposed decades of sexual harassment and assault claims against Weinstein. Soon after, Weinstein checked into a sex-addiction rehabilitation center. Since then, more than 40 women have come forward to accuse the disgraced film producer of grossly inappropriate behavior.

In the wake of the resulting controversy, the Neon Nettle web site published an article claiming that Weinstein had cut a deal to “Give [the] Names of Hollywood and Washington DC Pedophiles to [the] FBI.” However, this story is false, according to Snopes. Neon Nettle is a site known for publishing completely fabricated “news” articles. There have been no legitimate news coverage of this “report.”

Neon Nettle’s headline claim was supported with only a single anonymous statement:

Following Harvey Weinstein’s epic fall from the highest reaches of the societal and political hierarchy, the disgraced former movie mogul has decided to cut a deal with the FBI and has offered up the names of elite pedophiles in Hollywood and Washington D.C.

According to sources within the FBI, Weinstein has offered up the names of some of the most powerful and influential people in the United States in connection with pedophilia, child pornography, and human trafficking.

Neon Nettle has a history of publishing suspicious clickbait content that focuses on “elite pedophile rings.” For example, Neon Nettle published fake news that Brad Pitt claimed that “elite Hollywood pedophiles” control the United States and that Katy Perry and Justin Bieber allegedly made public statements that warned everyone that the music industry is run by pedophiles.

Here are some examples of people sharing the fake news on social media.

As of this writing, Weinstein has not been charged with any crime, much less a federal one, for which he would need to “cut a deal” with the FBI. Further, any negotiations of plea deals regarding prosecution for federal crimes would need to be conducted with the U.S. Department of Justice, not the FBI.

The Los Angeles Police Department has launched an investigation into the matter. It is the first case related to Weinstein to be reported in Southern California. New York police already have two active sex crime probes and London’s Metropolitan Police is investigating allegations made by three women.

What did you think of the fake news that Weinstein had cut a deal with the FBI to name pedophiles in Hollywood and D.C.? Did you believe it or see people sharing it falsely on social media? Let us know in the comments section.
