Frescobaldi Winery Review: Nipozzano Vecchie Viti Chianti Rufina 2013 Delivers Fine Taste

The Frescobaldi family has a long history and connection to Tuscany. At the high point of medieval Florence, the Frescobaldis spread their influence as bankers, earning the title of treasures to the English crown. A little later, with the flowering of the Renaissance, they became patrons of major works in Florence, such as the construction of the Santa Trinita bridge and the Basilica of Santo Spirito. Now, Frescobaldi winery is delivering fantastic wines with great tasting notes.

Take for example Nipozzano Vecchie Viti Chianti Rufina 2013, which is Sangiovese blended with a small percentage of Malvasia Nera, Colorino, and Canaiolo grapes. What makes this wine special is that it is sourced from the oldest, and most deeply-rooted vines of Frescobaldi’s thousand-year old Nipozzano estate. This estate offers a breath-taking view near the Chianti’s village of Pontassieve.

The Frescobaldi family selected Vecchie Viti to continue the tradition of reserving a private-collection wine for each new-born family member. This wine, sourced from the oldest, and most deeply-rooted vines at the Castello Nipozzano.

Frescobaldi produces incredibly aromatic wine of superb longestivity. They treat this process as a faithful expression of the unique soils of this singular estate. Nipozzano Vecchie Viti is complex and balanced as it is matured 24 months in large oak barrels and another 3 months in bottle. You will notice as sipping this delicious wine that it has a gorgeous ruby red in color. The wine is luminous and brilliant. Taking each sip you can experience the aromas of wild rose and walnuts.

There are also notes of ripe cherry, strawberry and raspberry fruits that lead to a mineral finish on the palate. Something to really enjoy paired with cheese or meats. Vecchie Viti easily brings out the best qualities in both delicate game meats such as quail, partridge, woodcock, and more structures ones like fallow deer and deer. Mix and match some of these foods with this great wine.

Overall, it was a great experience sharing wine from Frescobaldi Winery. Again, what did you think I got right and what do you think I said wrong? Let us know in the comments section.
