Trey Gowdy’s (R-S.C.) “sexual assault” accuser having worked for Hillary Clinton is fake news. There is no truth that the House oversight committee chairman had been accused of sexual assault by a man who previously worked for the former Democrat U.S. presidential candidate. Both Gowdy and Clinton have been the subject of many fake news, tweets, images and memes.
Where did this fake news originate? The Ladies of Liberty published the fake news article on Feb. 1, 2018, reporting that Gowdy was being accused of drugging and raping a man in a lawsuit filed by a Democrat operative who had been linked to Clinton. You can read the fake news below.
The young man accusing Trey Gowdy of sexual assault is a Democrat operative who used to work for Hillary Clinton. Sanford Batt, who has filed a lawsuit and asked for criminal charges against Gowdy, says the Congressman drugged him and raped him in the bushes outside his Washington apartment.
Gowdy’s office refuses to acknowledge the young man’s accusations at all, calling them “nonsense.” According to Melinda Caperponictatles, Gowdy has never even met the man:
“This whole thing is a setup to make it look like the Congressman is retiring from politics. Batt worked for the Clinton campaign and was also a legal consultant when she took the stand to be questioned. He spent hours prepping her because he was a “Gowdy expert.”
Batt is seeking $40 million in restitution that he says he will cut in half if Gowdy just admits to the act and faces the consequences. Our lawyers estimate that a man of his stature, religion and skin color would spend roughly four months in prison for rape, which is completely unacceptable. Gowdy’s lawyer says he won’t spend a minute in a courtroom over this nonsense, nevermind a prison cell.
However, there is no truth to the above story. What was the problem with the story? For one thing, there is no legitimate news coverage of Gowdy being accused of sexual assault. Furthermore, there is no record of a Melinda Caperponictatles working with Gowdy or any record of Sanford Batt having filed a lawsuit against Gowdy who is not seeking re-election and planning to leave politics.
Gowdy previously denied a request from House Democrats to investigate claims against President Donald Trump of sexual assault by women. “Those alleging sexual assault or criminal sexual conduct deserve to be interviewed by law enforcement professionals, and charging decisions should be made by prosecutors based on the quantum and quality of the admissible and provable evidence,” he said.
Finally and most importantly, Ladies of Liberty carries the following disclaimer:
Before you complain and decide satire is synonymous with “comedy”:
sat·ire
ˈsaˌtī(ə)r

The use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people’s stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues.
