Like the idea of everyone’s favorite high school football coach as X-Men’s Cable? According to a wild rumor, the upcoming Deadpool sequel from 20th Century Fox may have found its Cable in Bloodline star Kyle Chandler. A bit of odd casting choice but Chandler is an accomplished actor.

Ever since the Merc with a Mouth himself revealed that Cable was going to be in the sequel, actors and fans alike started campaigns to play the character, with names like Stephen Lang and Kiera Knightley getting thrown around.

According to Mashable’s Jeff Sneider on the latest episode of Meet the Movie Press (via HeroicHollywood), Chandler’s name has been “floating around for Cable for months.” However, Sneider said to “take this with a gigantic grain of salt,” as the studio has yet to officially announce who will play Cable.

Sneider also said that Fox is considering Mackenzie Davis (The Martian, Halt and Catch Fire) for the part of Domino, “who is said to be the scene-stealer of the movie.”

Earlier this month, X-Men producer Simon Kinberg shared a few new details on Deadpool 2, saying fans can expect the film to feature commentary on “anything that’s happening in movies today especially in superhero movies.” While Steve Lang has expressed interest in playing Cable in the past, Kinberg dashed hopes of him assuming the role, saying the part has yet to be cast.

Here are some reactions from Twitter:

For those who are not familiar with Cable, he is a character who has quite a history with Deadpool. The two had their own comic book series that ran for 50 issues, but before that, Deadpool first appeared on the page of Marvel Comics in New Mutants #98. In that issue, he was tasked with killing Cable, who happens to be the son of Scott Summers (Cyclops) and a clone of Jean Grey, born as a result of Mr. Sinister manipulating their family lineage in order to find a mutant powerful enough to defeat Apocalypse.

Cable possesses vast psychic power, most often manifested in the forms of telepathy and telekinesis. His telepathy has proven great enough in power and scope as to allow him to read thoughts across vast distances, and even interface with multiple minds, simultaneously. While the full limits of his mental abilities in this area have yet to be disclosed, Cable has also demonstrated the ability to project bolts or blasts of mental energy that are capable of easily killing or rendering unconscious another Human being.

In addition, Domino is a skilled marksman with a variety of weaponry, and she also possesses plenty of combat and martial arts training, making her a perfect companion to Deadpool.
