CIA Agent Confessing On Deathbed To Government Blowing Up World Trade Center On 9/11 Is Fake News

A dying CIA agent confessing to blowing up World Trade Center Building 7 on 9/11 through a controlled demolition is fake news. There is no truth to a report that a CIA agent’s deathbed confession proved the government’s role in bringing down the World Trade Center on that tragic day in our nation’s history. That horrific day has led to many conspiracy theories about how the towers collapsed.

The 9/11 attacks were a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks by the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda on the United States on the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001. The attacks killed 2,996 people, injured over 6,000 others, and caused at least $10 billion in infrastructure and property damage.

Now where did this fake news about a CIA agent’s deathbed confession originate? The YourNewsWire web site published the article on July 13, 2017, reporting that the dying CIA agent named Malcom Howard confessed to blowing up WTC Building 7 on 9/11 through controlled demolition:

79-year-old retired CIA agent, Malcom Howard, has made a series of astonishing claims since being released from hospital in New Jersey on Friday and told he has weeks to live. Mr. Howard claims he was involved in the “controlled demolition” of World Trade Center 7, the third building that was destroyed on 9/11.

Mr. Howard, who worked for the CIA for 36 years as an operative, claims he was tapped by senior CIA agents to work on the project due to his engineering background, and early career in the demolition business.

Trained as a civil engineer, Mr. Howard became an explosives expert after being headhunted by the CIA in early 1980s. Mr. Howard says has extensive experience in planting explosives in items as small as cigarette lighters and as large as “80 floor buildings.”

The 79-year-old New Jersey native says he worked on the CIA operation they dubbed “New Century” between May 1997 and September 2001, during a time he says the CIA “was still taking orders from the top.” Mr. Howard says he was part of a cell of 4 operatives tasked with ensuring the demolition was successful.

However, there was no truth to the story, according to Snopes. In the above fake story, readers should note that the article lacked critical details such as when and where the confession occurred.

Here are some examples of people sharing the fake news on social media.

The story originated with YourNewsWire, which is a fake news site. YourNewsWire provided no explanation of how the confession was obtained by only their site and no other major news media outlet. A search by Snopes produced no documentation of the existence of a former CIA agent named Malcom Howard outside of the YourNewsWire article.

Finally, this conspiracy theory that the World Trade Center Build 7 was brought down through a secret controlled demolition has been debunked, with the evidence demonstrating that fire alone caused the building’s collapse. However, that still sometimes is not enough for people leading to these fake stories like the one from YourNewsWire.
