Jill Soloway won for Transparent for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series. She said that “When you put women, people of color, trans and queer people at the center of the story, you change the world.” Jill also said “We need to stop violence against trans women and topple the patriarchy.”

In Transparent, Mort has a secret that he really wants to tell his three adult children, who are so self-absorbed they don’t see that something has changed for divorced, girlfriendless dad. Even when he invites them to dinner en masse to share his news, somehow, the conversation becomes about them. The secret unfolds, though, when he comes home and sees his married daughter getting intimate with her ex. Now, he knows her secret; she learns his; and the dysfunctional family finds one secret after another being exposed.

The Emmy Awards salute excellence in national primetime programming, presenting top honors annually at both the Creative Arts Emmy Awards and Engineering Emmy Awards ceremonies, as well as the Emmy Awards telecast.
The Emmy Awards are administered by three sister organizations, which focus on various sectors of television and broadband programming: Television Academy (primetime), National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (daytime, sports, news and documentary) and International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (international).
The Primetime Emmy Award is a symbol of peer recognition from over 20,000 Television Academy members. Each member casts a ballot for the category of competition in their field of expertise.
