Last into the tank for the season 8 premiere is 16-year-old Trisha Prabhu of ReThink, seeking $100,000 for 20 percent equity.
ReThink is an app that aims to stop cyberbullying messages in their tracks, before any damage can be done. According to their website, when someone “tries to post an offensive message on social media, ReThink uses its context sensitive filtering technology to determine whether or not it’s offensive and gives the adolescent a second chance to reconsider their decision.”
With a background in coding, Prabhu has given three TED Talks and starts her pitch by recalling some classic mean lines from the tank, including “You’re dead to me.” According to Prabhu, the free app gives teenagers the chance to pause, review and rethink before sending a potentially hurtful message. The app is aimed at parents and teachers, given that cyberbullies wouldn’t be seeking out an app like this.
Robert Herjavec thinks it’s a challenge that the power to send the message still rests in the hands of the cyberbully, but Prabhu says that in a 1,500-person trial, 93 percent reconsidered sending their message once given a ReThink alert.
Barbara Corcoran and Kevin O’Leary are the first sharks to go out since they worry about how it could make money. Herjavec likes the cause but he finds that the content filtering software is not unique and goes out.
Daymond John offers $100,000 for 30 percent, while Lori Greiner offers $100,000 for 20 percent because she is moved by the cause. She is also willing to open it up to other sharks. Mark Cuban says it’s a smart idea to work with a carrier, which she had previously declined, and goes in on the deal with Greiner. Prabhu accepts.

“Shark Tank,” which is based on “Dragons’ Den,” is produced by Mark Burnett and first debuted in 2009. To date, the sharks have invested more than $87 million in various companies after engaging in numerous bidding wars and shark fights. A new episode airs each Friday at 9 p.m. on ABC.
