Aziz Ansari won an Emmy with Alan Yang for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series for Master of None but he did not get a chance to give an acceptance speech. So, the Parks and Rec alum took to Instagram to give a praise to his parents. Ansari shared a photo of his parents Fatima and Shoukath Ansari seated in the audience. “Just wanted to thank these guys for giving me everything and more!” Ansari captioned the touching photo of his parents.

Ansari later took the stage again to present an award, joking that his dad was upset by the snub and waving to them in the audience. Ansari and Yang won their writing Emmy for the critically acclaimed epsiode “Parents,” which featured Aziz’s parents as guest stars. Fatima and Shoukath played Dev’s (Ansari) parents Nisha and Ramesh, respectively.

The Emmy Awards salute excellence in national primetime programming, presenting top honors annually at both the Creative Arts Emmy Awards and Engineering Emmy Awards ceremonies, as well as the Emmy Awards telecast.

The Emmy Awards are administered by three sister organizations, which focus on various sectors of television and broadband programming: Television Academy (primetime), National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (daytime, sports, news and documentary) and International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (international).

The Primetime Emmy Award is a symbol of peer recognition from over 20,000 Television Academy members. Each member casts a ballot for the category of competition in their field of expertise.
